How to Take Care of a Parrot?


Taking care of a pet bird compared to pets such as cats and dogs which are easy to domesticate is harder. The issues you have to deal with a bird are very different from a cat or dog. Before you buy a parrot as a pet there are some things you need to know first.

1.    Parrots are expensive: Usually a pet parrot cost from $100 to $1,000 dollars depending on the type and breed of the parrot. Internet is full of the websites that sell all kind of parrot of different prices and if you are interest in a talking parrot all you have to do is type talking parrots for sale. If you want a parrot in an affordable cost then try finding them in various animal shelters where you only need to pay a very small adoption fee. After buying parrot you have to spend money in buying the cage and other accessories such as cover, play gym, food and water dishes, a bird bath, a cuttlebone and holder etc. Furthermore you have to consider a healthy diet for the bird which also causes a little money to spend per month.

2.    Pet parrots tend to be messy: Pet parrots are usually messy and noisy and even a little destructive. They chew the toys and shred them and this can also happen with your furniture in case you let your parrot roam in your room. And if you intend to keep the cage neat and tidy then you will need to clean it one then one times a week.

3.    Parrot needs specialized veterinarian: Parrots have a very complex physiology and not all the veterinarian know about it and the disease that affect them. So it is important that you find a veterinarian beforehand who is experts in the birds and it is also necessary to take your bird to the veterinarian to have a complete evaluation and examination of health of the bird you just brought. After that you also have to take your parrot to the veterinarian every year for health check up.

4.    Parrots have long life: A parrot may live for then 20 or 30 years so you can compare it to a child caring. So when you decide to take it as a pet consider its life span and in case something happen to you make proper plans to for your parrot.

A taking parrot may be a good companion to have but it will live with you for a long time.
